This official GlenAllachie, a 10 year old, from 2014, cask 803475, at 62.2%, 706 bottles in all. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt from the hills above Aberlour, below Ben Rinnes. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes. It was founded in 1967, designed by the architect William Delme Evans, his fourth distillery after Jura and Tullibardine. It runs unusually long fermentations, up to a hundred and sixty hours, for a thick, ester rich and fruity spirit.

It was run slowly off the spirit still, for a thick, ester rich spirit the casks then deepen. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working deep into the malt. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years.

At a natural 62.2% it is full and rich. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is full and coating, the fruit dark and sweet. The finish is rounded, dark and spiced. This is GlenAllachie's deep, fruity Speyside style.
