This official GlenAllachie, a 10 year old, from 2014, cask 3220, at 64.2%, 363 bottles in all. GlenAllachie is a rich, sherried Speyside malt from Aberlour, built on full bodied spirit and active casks. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit. It runs unusually long fermentations, up to a hundred and sixty hours, for a thick, ester rich and fruity spirit.

The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, for a full make built to take active wood. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working deep into the malt. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. Long ageing turns the fresh notes towards date, prune and a dark, bittersweet chocolate. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body.

At its natural 64.2% it is rich and chewy. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. The close is rich and dark, fruit over a warm spice. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real richness.
