Description
This official GlenAllachie, a 4 year old, at 60.2%, a festival bottling. GlenAllachie is a rich, sherried Speyside malt from Aberlour, built on full bodied spirit and active casks. It was built by Mackinlay McPherson, the firm that supplied whisky to Shackleton's 1907 expedition. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit.
The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, shaping a rich Speyside body with real weight. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin and toasted sugars over the full, fruity spirit. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich GlenAllachie make. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.
At a hearty 60.2% it carries real weight. A deep, dark sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. The close is rich and dark, fruit over a warm spice. This is the sherry led malt of Aberlour.
