Description
A GlenAllachie of a 10 year old chosen by Whisky.de, distilled in 2009, from cask 5584, at 57.8%, bottled for a whisky festival. GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt, revived in 2017 by the team of Billy Walker. It was built for the 1960s blend boom, its make long destined for the blender's vat. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit.
The spirit was run slowly off the spirit still, building a deep malt of dried fruit and dark sugar. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working deep into the malt. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich GlenAllachie make.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.8%, it is deep and concentrated. Orange, raisin and a treacle edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Dried fruit and a treacle sit behind the spice. It finishes long, full and fruity. This is a dark, fruity Speyside single malt.
