Glen Keith Vintage Edition 30 Years Old 1991

Glen Keith from the distillery, a 30 year old, from 1991, at 51.3%, 1332 bottles in all. Glen Keith is a fruity Speyside single malt from the Chivas stable at Keith. It was the first new distillery to open in Speyside since the great whisky crash of 1898.

It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Keith style, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Ethereal and fragile, decades draw the light malt to a honeyed, waxy delicacy of sotolon, tropical fruit and old oak. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Keith character lead the way. The clean, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. It was the first distillery in Scotland to use gas fired direct heating. It was Seagram's experimental plant, and still houses the Chivas Brothers lab. Its water is drawn from the Balloch Hill spring above Keith.

At its natural 51.3% it is concentrated. Baked apple, citrus and a creamy vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is the light, fresh malt of Keith.
