Description
A 33 year old Glen Keith, a distillery bottling, from 1990, at 50.5%, 3128 bottles in all. Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt known for a light, sweet, fruity character. Its water is drawn from the Balloch Hill spring above Keith.
It was made on Balloch Hill water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. At a great, fragile age oxidation rules, sotolon lending maple and dried fig as beeswax and a tropical fruit linger. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make. It ran triple distillation from the start, switching to double distillation by the 1980s. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland. The clean, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear.
At cask strength 50.5% it is full bodied. Baked apple, citrus and a creamy vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a clean, fruity Speyside single malt.
