Description
This Glen Keith was bottled by the German bottler The Whisky Agency, a 29 year old, distilled in 1994, bottled at 54.1%, one of 125 bottles. Glen Keith, founded in 1957, was Seagram's innovation plant on Speyside. Its first permanent single malt was released in 2017, the Distillery Edition.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, for a light, elegant spirit with a soft malt. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into mango, beeswax and a soft honey. Maturation in the racked warehouses at Keith is slow and steady. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Single malt Glen Keith is rare, most of it coming from independent bottlers.
At its natural 54.1% it is concentrated. Green apple, pear and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is Glen Keith, Seagram's experimental Speyside malt.
