Description
A Glen Keith of a 24 year old chosen by the bottler Orcines, distilled in 1994, from cask 157644, bottled at 46%. Glen Keith is a clean, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Keith in Moray. It sits within sight of Strathisla, the oldest distillery in Scotland.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend a drying structure while oxidation builds a richer, tropical fruit. Balloch Hill water and the tall stills give the light Glen Keith make. It was the first new distillery to open in Speyside since the great whisky crash of 1898. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. The tall, narrowing stills give a light spirit that takes the cask well. It was built in 1957 by Seagram on the site of a meal mill, directly behind Strathisla.
At 46% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Green apple, pear and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is the light, fresh malt of Keith.
