Description
An official release of Glen Keith, a 21 year old, cask Batch GK/005, at 43%. Glen Keith, founded in 1957, was Seagram's innovation plant on Speyside. Its tall, narrowing stills give a light, fruity Speyside spirit.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Keith style, for the light, fruity make Glen Keith is known for. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and tropical fruit. The light, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Its water is drawn from the Balloch Hill spring above Keith.
At 43% it is smooth and fruity. A clean, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a clean, fruity Speyside single malt.
