Description
From the Elgin house Gordon and MacPhail, a 21 year old Glen Keith, distilled in 1999, from cask 114, bottled at 56%, one of 246 bottles. Glen Keith is a light, fruity Speyside malt, built in 1957 as Seagram's experimental distillery. Single malt Glen Keith is rare, most of it coming from independent bottlers.
Distilled from unpeated malt in tall, narrowing stills, building a light, fruity character of green apple and pear. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. At oxidative maturity vanillin and lactones are fully expressed, the light fruit deepening to honey. The light, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Keith character lead the way. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards tropical fruit, honey and a soft spice. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Keith warehouses.
At a natural 56% it is full and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and citrus, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a light Speyside single malt from the town of Keith.
