Lavender and rose drift up first, then cedar and a thread of lemongrass, before a sweet, vanilla-soft palate settles in. Built with a Grasse perfumer to bottle the scent of Provence, this Hamburg limited edition arrives in a cockerel-painted ceramic flask. Long and mild, the south held in a glass.
Description
Gin Sul's Caminho do Sul series sends the Altonaer Spirituosen Manufaktur team chasing the scent of the south, and Franca points them at the lavender fields of Provence. To capture it they worked with Delphine Thierry, a perfumer from Grasse, the town long regarded as the home of French perfumery. Roses, lavender flowers, cedar wood and lemongrass were folded into the gin, and the whole thing poured into a hand-painted ceramic bottle bearing a cockerel with a martini glass.
The nose is unmistakably floral, fresh juniper threading through lavender and rose. The palate turns sweet, with vanilla nuances, warm cedar wood, a touch of cardamom and that bright lemongrass lift, before a long, mild and complex finish. Lovely in a classic gin and tonic with a sprig of lavender, or sipped neat.
