Description
G.H. Mumm is one of the best-known Champagne houses, and Grand Cordon is its modern flagship, marked by the iconic red cordon set into the glass. The cuvee is built around Pinot Noir sourced from more than a hundred crus, with Chardonnay adding elegance and minerality and Meunier bringing fruit. Some reserve wines are aged in oak, which lends extra complexity and aromatic depth. Made by the traditional method, the wine is refermented in bottle and rested on the lees to develop its toasted, pastry-like character before a brut dosage finishes it dry.
The wine is a brilliant golden yellow with a fine, persistent bead. The nose is intense, with ripe peach, apricot and pineapple over vanilla, pastry, dried fruit and honey. The palate is structured and layered with expressive fruit, fresh acidity and a powerful, long finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and pairs with oysters, scallops, prawns, fine fish, poultry and veal.
