Fonseca Porto White Port

Fonseca, part of the Fladgate Partnership and one of the historic Douro houses, makes this White Port from classic white varieties including Malvasia Fina, Gouveio, Viosinho, Rabigato and Arinto grown on the cooler higher vineyards of the valley. It is the pale-gOld counterpart to the house's red-fruit Rubies and nutty Tawnies.

The white grapes are fermented and fortified with grape spirit, then matured in wood. Ageing in oak vats rounds the wine and builds its ripe fruit character together with a delicate nuttiness, giving a fuller, more honeyed style than the drier aperitif whites.

The nose is rich and fragrant, with mellow orchard fruit and hints of honey and oak. The palate is full and velvety, carrying quince and dried apricot into a long, gently nutty finish. Serve it well chilled on its own, poured over ice with tonic and a twist of lemon for a Port spritz, or alongside salted nuts, olives and hard cheese before a meal.
