Fonseca Porto Ruby Port

Fonseca, one of the Douro's storied houses within the Fladgate Partnership, blends this Ruby from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao and Tinta Barroca. It is the freshest and most fruit-driven of the house range, built for depth of colour and immediacy rather than long wood ageing.

The reds are fortified with grape spirit part way through fermentation, which halts the ferment and leaves natural sweetness while lifting the strength. Rather than being aged oxidatively, the wine spends only a short time in large vessels before bottling, so it hOlds its deep ruby hue and its bright primary fruit.

The nose is fresh and youthful, packed with cherry and blackcurrant. The palate is full bodied, with solid but well integrated tannins carrying a long, rich fruity finish. Serve it at cool room temperature after dinner, or pair it with dark chocolate, berry desserts and semi-hard cheese.
