    Flor de Cana is Nicaragua's best-known rum house, usually associated with clean, slow-aged, no-sugar-added spirit, and Spresso is its coffee-infused offshoot built on a seven year old base. This is an openly flavoured release rather than a straight rum, so it should be taken as the coffee-forward treat it is.

    The seven year old molasses rum underneath has been matured in ex-bourbon wood, but the coffee dominates, with mocha, espresso and chocolate on the nose and a palate of espresso, brown sugar and caramelised notes leading to a cappuccino finish. Bottled at a soft thirty percent, it is intense in flavour yet gentle in strength. Where many coffee spirits turn cloying, this stays a touch drier and more genuinely coffee-like, making it a fine pour alongside dessert or a more grown-up alternative to a sweet coffee liqueur.
