Description
Eichenwald Weine work in Horitschon in Burgenland, red wine country in the east of Austria, and build the Horizzante Rosé from the region's two leading red grapes, Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt. The base wine is kept in steel tanks, which protects the varietal fruit and the lively acidity, before the wine is finished as a frizzante with a light, gentle fizz rather than a full bottle fermentation. The style is deliberately fresh and uncomplicated, an all day aperitif with a fine perlage and a low, easy alcohol of 12 per cent.
The wine is a pale onion skin pink in the glass. The nose leads with strawberry and red berries, alongside pineapple and ripe yellow apple. The palate is fruity with a balanced acidity and a light frame, closing lively, fresh and clean. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass. A relaxed aperitif that suits light starters, antipasti, fresh salads and summer snacks through the warmer months.
