Description
Don Julio Añejo is a 100 percent Blue Weber tequila from the Diageo owned distillery at Atotonilco el Alto, in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco. The house traces its founding to 1942 under Julio González, and this is its core aged expression, a polished and widely poured añejo rather than a rustic agave showcase.
The agave is steam cooked and the spirit rested eighteen months in American oak, which lends the golden colour and the leading notes of mocha, chocolate and honey set against citrus, mandarin and grapefruit. Highland fruit and barrel sweetness carry the palate, with oak sitting alongside cooked agave at mid palate. Bottled at 38 percent, it leans soft and sweet in the modern style and is not positioned as additive-free.
