Diamond S.B.S SVL 2003

A Diamond SVL single cask from Denmark's 1423 under their S.B.S label, distilled in 2003 off the Savalle still and aged seventeen years. The SVL marque is one of the stranger Savalle expressions, and this bottling leans hard into its candied, fruity side.

Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at 53.7%, it opens with vivid strawberry and cherry candy, caramel and toffee, then turns herbal and spicy with a bitter oak edge. It is polarising, more confectionery than the dark, woody Demerara some will expect, and all the more fun for it. The alcohol is reasonably handled and the overall effect is playful rather than serious. For drinkers who enjoy characterful Guyana rum and do not mind a quirky, almost artificial fruit twist, it is well worth a try.
