A Peruvian column-and-pot ron bottled by Plantation, soft and cacao-led with vanilla, coconut, pineapple and light oak, a comfortable 43.1% step up that adds wood and fruit without funk, and openly dosed in the Maison Ferrand house style.
Description
This Plantation Vintage 2006 is distilled in Peru by Destilerias Unidas and selected by Maison Ferrand in France, a house known for double-ageing its rums in cognac casks and for being open about the dosage it adds. The spirit here is molasses-based and made on both column and pot stills, giving a touch more body than a purely light column ron, and it carries thirteen years before bottling at 43.1%.
Maturation in ex-bourbon wood, finished in the Ferrand style, brings vanilla, woody spice, pineapple and a marzipan-and-cacao depth, with coconut and a soft, slightly sweet centre. It is a comfortable step up for drinkers who like smooth Spanish-style rum and want a little more oak and dark-chocolate character without jumping into high-strength funk. In keeping with the bottler, it carries some added sugar, so it sits as an easy, fruit-and-cacao sipper offering plenty of approachable familiarity.
