It is the only distillery in Scotland to make all its own power from the river. The 1785 Arkwright mill became a distillery in 1965, opening in 1966. This is Deanston’s waxy, fruity Highland style.

Description
An official release of Deanston, at 46.3%. Deanston is a Highland malt made in a vaulted stone mill, waxy and malty in style. Its old weaving shed, once full of looms, is now a cool stone warehouse for the casks.
It was distilled slowly for a clean, fruity spirit, for a clean, fruity spirit with a waxy edge. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. No age is given, but vanillin vanilla and a soft honey are well integrated over a waxy body. The long ferment and clear wort give a fruity spirit that ages with grace. The waxy texture is the Deanston signature, carried through the years in cask. The mill ran for 180 years before cotton declined and the site became a distillery. Maturing in the vaulted stone warehouse, the spirit develops slow and steady. It uses 100% Scottish barley and bottles its malt unchillfiltered, with no added colour.
Reduced to 46.3%, it is mellow. A fruity, waxy sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is buttery and waxy, the fruit on a honeyed body. The close is waxy and warming, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Deanston's waxy, fruity Highland style.
