Description
A Deanston of an 11 year old chosen by the Campbeltown house Cadenhead, distilled in 2008, bottled at 58%, one of 264 bottles. Deanston is a Highland single malt known for its waxy texture and unchillfiltered bottlings. The spirit is condensed in shell and tube condensers for a clean, fruity make.
The spirit was made on River Teith water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the waxy, honeyed make Deanston is known for. Maturation came in a Rum cask, layered over the fruity Deanston make. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the waxy, honeyed spirit growing rounder. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its honey and wax. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards honey, dried fruit and a soft spice. A gentle maturation suits the soft make, the honey and wax growing richer with time.
At a hearty 58% it carries real weight. Baked apple, honey and a creamy malt, with a soft brown sugar and a tropical fruit from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy malt fill the middle. The finish is rounded, honeyed and gently spiced. This is a waxy, honeyed Highland single malt.
