From the bottler Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, a 29 year old Dailuaine, distilled in 1995, from cask 008565, bottled at 50.1%, one of 164 bottles. Dailuaine is the rich, malty Speyside single malt that helped build the Johnnie Walker blends. Its big stills give a heavy, full bodied spirit that takes sherry wood especially well.

The spirit was distilled in large conical necked stills on Bailliemullich Burn water, to build a robust, malty, sherry loving character. First fill bourbon gave a fuller vanilla over the robust spirit. Oxidative, evaporative ageing turns the malt deep and rich, ethereal esters and a faint sotolon (maple). The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the heavy malt deepening. Most of its make goes to blending, with a Flora and Fauna sixteen year old the regular single malt. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy.

At a natural 50.1% it is full and honeyed. Apple, dried fruit and a meaty edge, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is full and rich, the fruit lifted by a meaty malt. A full, malty finish ends on dried fruit and a warm spice. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real depth.
