Description
This Dailuaine was bottled by the revived blender James Eadie, a 14 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 361937, bottled at 48.1%, one of 369 bottles. Dailuaine, whose name is Gaelic for the green vale, is a heavy, full bodied Speysider. It had its own railway siding and a little locomotive, Dailuaine No.1, known as the Puggy.
Distilled in large conical necked stills on Bailliemullich Burn water, to build a robust, malty, sherry loving character. An Amontillado cask gave a dry, nutty, almond edge. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper orchard fruit over the meaty malt. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. A fire in 1917 destroyed the maltings, and the distillery was rebuilt soon after. Dailuaine's heavy, malty make is prized by blenders for the body it gives.
At its natural 48.1% it is concentrated. Baked fruit, fig and a savoury depth, with a clove and dried fruit spice from the cask. Dried fruit, malt and a savoury spice fill the middle. The close is long, fruit over a rich malt. This is a rich, malty Speyside single malt.
