Description
From the bottler Drm Mr, a 13 year old Dailuaine, from cask 300711, bottled at 54.3%, one of 305 bottles. Dailuaine, whose name is Gaelic for the green vale, is a heavy, full bodied Speysider. The distillery was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie on the banks of the Spey at Carron.
It was drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, for a big, full Speyside spirit. A wine cask finish layered fruit over the robust, malty spirit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath. Most Dailuaine goes quietly into blends, a robust filler kept in part as single malt. Maturation in the cool north east keeps the rich spirit balanced over the years. The name is Gaelic for the green vale, after the hollow in which the distillery sits.
At cask strength 54.3% it is full bodied. Orchard fruit, malt and a warm spice, with plum, red berry and chocolate from the cask. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. The close is long, fruit over a rich malt. This is one of Speyside's heavier single malts.
