Description
From the London merchant Berry Bros and Rudd, a 13 year old Dailuaine, distilled in 2010, from cask 307763, bottled at 50.3%, one of 262 bottles. Dailuaine, founded in 1852, gave Scotch its first pagoda roofed kiln. It passed to DCL and Scottish Malt Distillers in the 1920s and was later modernised.
Worked through the big stills for a meaty, malty spirit, to build a robust, malty, sherry loving character. Maturation in an Oloroso cask laid dried fruit over the meaty, malty spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the malt, fruit deepening to dried fruit. The full bodied make rewards a long, patient maturation in good wood. Dailuaine's heavy, malty make is prized by blenders for the body it gives. Years in oak round the spirit, the fruit deepening to dried fruit and a savoury spice. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride.
Bottled at a cask strength 50.3%, it is rich. Baked fruit, fig and a savoury depth, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked fruit and a warm spice lift it. Dried fruit, malt and a savoury oak see out the finish. This is a rich, dried fruit laden Speyside single malt.
