Description
A 13 year old Dailuaine from the London merchant Berry Bros and Rudd, distilled in 2009, from cask 315729, bottled at 53.7%, one of 307 bottles. Dailuaine is a heavy, fruity Speyside single malt from near Aberlour. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey.
The spirit was run through the distillery's big copper stills, for the rich, full bodied make Dailuaine is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the meaty malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper orchard fruit over the meaty malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the meaty malt. Water comes from the Bailliemullich Burn, the spirit drawn off three wash and three spirit stills. Refill oak lets the robust Dailuaine character lead, malt and dried fruit beneath.
At 53.7%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. A robust, sherried maltiness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is heavy, the fruit carried on a meaty, malty body. A long, full finish carries a savoury depth. This is one of Speyside's heavier single malts.
