Dailuaine 10 Years Old 2015 Cask #312020 (Adelphi)

The Adelphi bottler bottled this Dailuaine, a 10 year old, distilled in 2015, from cask 312020, bottled at 58%, one of 327 bottles. Dailuaine was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie, and was the first distillery to wear the pagoda roof. In 1889 it became the first distillery to use the pagoda roof, the Doig Ventilator designed by Charles Doig.

The spirit was distilled for the heavy, full bodied spirit Dailuaine is known for, for a big, full Speyside spirit. A Pedro Ximenez cask added raisin, date and a treacle sweetness. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the heavy body fuller and richer. The big stills give a heavy spirit that takes a long, sherried maturation in its stride. A fire in 1917 destroyed the maltings, and the distillery was rebuilt soon after. It sits near Aberlour, in the heart of Speyside by the River Spey.

At cask strength 58% it is full bodied. A rich, full bodied sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. It finishes robust, malty and warm. This is a rich, malty Speyside single malt.
