From the Glasgow bottler Douglas Laing, a 10 year old Dailuaine, distilled in 2008, from cask DL 12541, bottled at 48.4%, one of 751 bottles. Dailuaine is a heavy, fruity Speyside single malt from near Aberlour. Most of its make goes to blending, with a Flora and Fauna sixteen year old the regular single malt.

It was drawn off three wash and three spirit stills, for a rich, meaty make that suits sherry wood. A sherry cask wrapped the rich spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth, a fine match for the heavy malt. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the rich, full bodied spirit growing rounder. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation, the heavy malt deepening. Long ageing turns the fresh fruit towards dried fruit, fig, leather and a warm spice. In 1889 it became the first distillery to use the pagoda roof, the Doig Ventilator designed by Charles Doig.

At cask strength 48.4% it is full bodied. A robust, sherried maltiness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is robust and fruity, the full bodied spirit shining through. It finishes robust, malty and warm. This is a rich, malty Speyside single malt.
