The wood-led member of Clement’s Secrets de Futs trio, a fresh cane-juice Martinique agricole resting in oak for barrel, vanilla and warm cinnamon over fruity, balanced spice, dry and unsweetened at 41.7%.
Description
Clement, the three hundred year old GBH-owned Martinique estate distilled at Distillerie du Simon, built Secrets de Futs as a study in cask character across three releases. Boise is the toasted, woody one, set against the richer Riche and the rounder Gourmand. Like all of them it starts from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses.
Run through a creole column in the house style and matured in oak, this expression foregrounds barrel and baking spice: vanilla and dry fruit on the nose, cinnamon and nutty wood across a balanced palate, and a persistent nutty, woody finish. There is no added sugar under AOC rules, so its warmth comes from toasted oak rather than dosage. Pleasant and unpretentious, it rewards a little air in the glass and would make a tidy base for a ti vieux.
