A seven year Clarendon EMB from 1423’s S.B.S line, funky and tropical with ester, banana and smoky wood over leather and spice, a young but lively cask strength single cask at 65.7% with the heat well woven into the fruit.
Description
This is a Single Barrel Selection from 1423 of Denmark, a Clarendon carrying the EMB marque, distilled in 2015 and aged seven years. Clarendon is Jamaica's workhorse supplier, and its pot still marks like EMB bring genuine high-ester funk; 1423's S.B.S line is detail-obsessed, cask strength and unsweetened.
Distilled from molasses on a double-retort pot still and matured in ex-bourbon wood, it leads with tropical fruit, ester and a smoky edge alongside banana, then turns to tropical fruit, ester, smoke and leather on the palate, finishing intense and roasted. Bottled at 65.7% and certified unsweetened, the alcohol is well integrated for a young rum, the spices and smoky wood binding the fruit together. The result is a lively, expressive Clarendon that delivers cask strength Jamaican funk at a relatively youthful age, one for drinkers who want fruit, spice and heat in full measure.
