Red berries spill out first, raspberry and blackcurrant over a tart streak of rhubarb, with peppery spice and a faint pastry warmth beneath. Distilled in Cognac’s old Charentais pot stills and infused with two dozen fruits and botanicals, it carries no colourings, additives or sugar. Complex, fresh and quietly indulgent.

Description
Citadelle traces its name to 1775 and the old citadel of Dunkirk, though Alexandre Gabriel's modern recipe took shape two centuries later. This Rouge expression is distilled at the Logis d'Angeac estate in Cognac, in century-old Charentais pot stills that spend the rest of the year making brandy. A progressive infusion of twenty-four fresh fruits and botanicals, from juniper, orris and almond to cranberry, rhubarb, raspberry and blackcurrant, gives it depth, all bottled without colouring, additive or sugar.
The nose is intense with red fruit and a soft pastry note. The palate is complex and fresh, sweetish red berries and tart rhubarb cut with peppery spice, leading to a long, lingering finish. Serve it classically over ice with a good tonic and a short stalk of rhubarb to echo the fruit.
