Description
Sexywhisky selected this Cameronbridge, a 36 year old distilled in 1982 and bottled at 53.4%. Just 40 bottles were filled. Set in Fife, Cameronbridge has made grain whisky since 1824, the oldest plant of its kind in Scotland. As well as grain whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.
Distilled continuously in column stills from wheat, on Loch Leven water, giving a clean, mellow grain whisky. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, American oak giving coconut and toffee. Beyond thirty years the grain grows deep and oily, coconut, butterscotch and crème brûlée over polished oak. Decades turn a light spirit into something rich, oily and tropical. As well as whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club. Water comes from Loch Leven, the mash from wheat, the spirit off three column stills.
At a hearty 53.4% it carries real weight. The ex-Bourbon gives crème brûlée, coconut and vanilla. A crème brûlée and a polished oak give it depth. Toffee and vanilla see out a long finish. This is the clean, sweet grain of Cameronbridge.
