Description
This Cameronbridge was from the independent bottler Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd, a 30 year old release distilled in 1992 and bottled at 45.6%. The outturn was 276 bottles. Cameronbridge is a vast Lowland grain distillery in Fife, working since 1824. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland; John Haig installed Stein then Coffey stills and made the country's first commercial grain whisky.
It was worked through column stills from wheat, for the light, sweet grain spirit Cameronbridge is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla and crème brûlée. Mid age brings a deeper coconut and a buttery, dessert sweetness. Years in cask build a waxy, polished depth over the clean grain spirit. John Haig's cousin Robert Stein invented the continuous still, and Cameronbridge was among the first to run one. The Haig distilling dynasty traces its roots in Scottish whisky back to the 1600s.
Undiluted at 45.6%, it is layered. The ex-Bourbon gives crème brûlée, coconut and vanilla. Beneath it run coconut, vanilla and a soft oil. It finishes clean, sweet and buttery. This is a single grain from Scotland's largest grain distillery.
