Description
Bottled by Adelphi, this Cameronbridge, a 30 year old single grain distilled in 1978, from cask 5 and bottled at 56.6%. The outturn was 238 bottles. Cameronbridge is a vast Lowland grain distillery in Fife, working since 1824. Its single grain has long been sold as Cameron Brig, and since 2014 as Haig Club.
It was worked through column stills from wheat, for the light, sweet grain spirit Cameronbridge is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, building the sweet, oily grain character. Around twenty five years the grain gains a fuller toffee and an oily weight. Years in cask build a waxy, polished depth over the clean grain spirit. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, it is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery. As well as whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.6%, it is rich. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla, cream and a dessert sweetness. Soft toffee and vanilla sit behind the sweetness. The close is soft, dessert sweet over oak. This is a Lowland single grain from Fife.
