Description
This Cameronbridge single grain, a 26 year old and bottled at 56.2%. Cameronbridge is a Lowland grain distillery in Fife, founded in 1824 by John Haig and now the largest distillery in Scotland. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland; John Haig installed Stein then Coffey stills and made the country's first commercial grain whisky.
The spirit was run off the distillery's three column stills from a wheat mash, to build a soft, sweet grain character. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending coconut and vanilla. Past two decades the grain deepens into coconut, toffee and crème brûlée. Continuous distillation gives a light, clean spirit, so the cask drives much of the flavour. The Haig name has been tied to Scottish distilling since the 17th century. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland, making the country's first commercial grain whisky. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery.
At a natural 56.2% it is full and oily. The ex-Bourbon gives toffee, vanilla and a soft oil. Beneath it run coconut, vanilla and a soft oil. It closes long, sweet and oily. This is a single grain from Scotland's largest grain distillery.
