Description
Creative Whisky Company bottled this Cameronbridge single grain, a 25 year old release distilled in 1991, from cask 93754 and bottled at 52.9%. Just 362 bottles were filled. Cameronbridge was founded in 1824 by John Haig, of the great Haig distilling family, in Fife. Water comes from Loch Leven, the mash from wheat, the spirit drawn off three column stills.
The spirit was made in continuous stills from wheat for a light spirit, for a light, sweet make of real purity. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the sweet grain. Past two decades the grain deepens into coconut, toffee and crème brûlée. Patient ageing gives the oily, waxy texture prized in old single grain. The Haig distilling dynasty traces its roots in Scottish whisky back to the 1600s. The distillery sits at Windygates in the Kingdom of Fife, near the River Leven. Light grain spirit like this gains coconut and toffee from decades in active oak.
At cask strength 52.9% it is full bodied. The Oloroso brings dried fruit and a nutty depth over the sweet grain. It is clean and sweet, the grain spirit shining through. A sweet, coconut led finish lingers. This is the grain behind Cameron Brig and Haig Club.
