Description
From The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd comes this Cambus, aged 24 year old distilled in 1991, from cask 79877 and bottled at 51.5%. Just 300 bottles were filled. Cambus, a silent grain distillery on the River Devon, made whisky from about 1806 to 1993. With the distillery long closed, every bottle is drawn from a finite, dwindling stock.
Distilled continuously in two Coffey stills from a grain mash, giving a clean, mellow grain whisky. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending coconut and vanilla. Even at this age the grain is deep, coconut, vanilla and toffee over a soft oil. Three decades and more turn a light spirit into something rich and tropical. It was one of the five grain distilleries that founded the Distillers Company Limited in 1877. In 1906 its grain was advertised as not a headache in a gallon, helping win the What is Whisky case. Closed in 1993, the site is now a Diageo cooperage beside the Blackgrange warehouses.
Bottled at a cask strength 51.5%, it is rich. The ex-Bourbon gives butterscotch, coconut and cream. A butterscotch and a creamy oak lift it. Crème brûlée and oak draw out the close. This is the dessert sweet grain of silent Cambus.
