Description
From whic - Whiskycircle comes this Cambus, a 24 year old release and bottled at 62.9%. A release of 149 bottles. Cambus, one of Scotland's oldest grain distilleries, ran near Alloa from about 1806 until its closure in 1993. With the distillery long closed, every bottle is drawn from a finite, dwindling stock.
It was drawn from Coffey stills on Lossburn Reservoir water, for a delicate spirit that leans on the cask with age. Ex-Bourbon casks held the grain, soft oak that drives the sweetness. At this age the sweet grain has gained a full coconut and a buttery depth. The high strength spirit mellows slowly into a soft, sweet old grain. Cambus was once one of the largest grain distilleries in Scotland. Most surviving Cambus was distilled in the late 1980s and early 1990s, before the doors closed. Grain whisky like this gains coconut and toffee from decades in active oak. The light, sweet grain takes on a deep, oily richness over many years.
At a natural 62.9% it is full and oily. The ex-Bourbon gives toffee, vanilla and a soft oil. A butterscotch and a creamy oak lift it. It finishes clean, sweet and buttery. This is the dessert sweet grain of silent Cambus.
