Description
Connacht Distillery stands on the River Moy at Ballina, Co. Mayo, part of the west of Ireland's young whiskey wave, and unusually for the country it distills its single malt twice in the Scottish manner. This bottling, Extrafass #1, is the work of Berlin Distillery, a German independent that selected single cask 48 for its home market and bottled it in 2023 at five years old.
The malt spent its life in ex-bourbon oak before a finish in Ruby Port and rum casks, layering red berry fruit and brown cane sugar over American oak vanilla and coconut. Bottled at 46.1% in a run of 326 half litre bottles, it is a small, single cask window on Mayo spirit shaped by a Berlin eye for cask selection.
