A senior 1991 Ardbeg single cask from Signatory Vintage's Cask Strength Collection, bottled at 33 years in 2024. The cask number format #02/453/1 follows Signatory's sequential warehouse cask identification, with the prefix marking the bottling sequence rather than the original distillery cask number. Signatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and acquired the Edradour distillery in 2002.

Filled into refill American oak in 1991 during Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening and matured for thirty three years across the 1996 final closure, the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition, the 2004 LVMH purchase and the 2013 Hunter Laing split. Bottled in 2024 at 52.6% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 52.6% reading after more than three decades reflects a relatively tightly sealed cask in a cooler dunnage position.

Thirty three years of refill American oak maturation delivers near complete oak interaction. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) reach saturation, hemicellulose breakdown furans build caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde deliver sweet baking spice. The 1991 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) have undergone substantial oxidative conversion across three decades, shifting the smoke register toward leather, tarred rope and seasoned bonfire ash. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature persists as concentrated tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
