Ardbeg 32 Years Old 1976 Cask #2397 (La Maison du Whisky)

An exclusive French market release through La Maison du Whisky in Paris, drawn from 1976 cask #2397. LMDW was founded in 1956 by Georges Bénitah and grew into France's specialist Scotch and rare spirits importer, with longstanding relationships across the Scottish distillery estate. The 1976 vintage is one of the more heavily released Hiram Walker era cohorts, sitting alongside the Distillery's own Feis Ile 2002 (cask #2390, 494 bottles).

Filled into refill American oak cask in 1976 during Hiram Walker's full production years and matured on Islay for thirty two years across the 1981 mothball, the late 1980s reopening, the 1996 Allied Distillers final closure, the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition and the 2004 LVMH purchase. Bottled in 2008 at 52.4% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour.

Thirty two years of refill American oak maturation delivers near complete oak interaction. Cis and trans oak lactones reach saturation, hemicellulose breakdown furans build caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde deliver sweet baking spice. The 1976 peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) have undergone substantial oxidative conversion across three decades into leather, tarred rope and seasoned bonfire ash. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature carries through as concentrated tropical fruit (pineapple, lemon, melon) beneath the integrated phenolic core.
