Ardbeg 25 Years Old 1991 Cask #2045302 (Signatory Vintage, Kirsch Whisky 40th Anniversary)

Released by Signatory Vintage in 2016 to mark the 40th anniversary of Kirsch Whisky, the German specialist Scotch importer founded in 1976. Kirsch has been a leading German market force for rare single cask and exclusive releases, with longstanding relationships across the Scottish independent bottler network including Signatory Vintage. Anniversary releases through Kirsch typically channel exceptional casks selected from the importer's archive partners.

Filled into refill sherry hogshead #2045302 in 1991 during Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening and matured for twenty five years across the 1996 final closure, the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition, the 2004 LVMH purchase and the 2013 Hunter Laing split. Bottled in 2016 at 51% ABV for the Kirsch 40th anniversary, unfiltered, uncoloured, 229 bottles drawn at natural strength.

Refill sherry hogshead maturation across twenty five years delivers gentle sherry chemistry layered onto deep oak interaction. Polyphenols from Spanish oak (gallic acid, ellagic acid) and residual sherry melanoidins build alongside oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) and hemicellulose furans (caramel, toasted almond). The 1991 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol) have undergone substantial oxidative conversion, shifting the smoke register toward dried fruit, almond skin, leather and bitter chocolate. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature persists as concentrated citrus and tropical fruit beneath the layered sherry character.
