Released through the Ardbeg Committee in 2000, the inaugural year of the club founded by Glenmorangie three years after acquiring the distillery. The Committee was conceived as a brand activation programme that gave enrolled members access to limited releases ahead of public sale, drawing initial stock from the Hiram Walker era archive which Glenmorangie had inherited in 1997. The 1976 vintage was foundational to the relaunch, sitting alongside the 1974 stock used for the inaugural Provenance bottlings.

Matured on Islay for twenty four years from 1976 through both mothball periods, the 1996 final Allied Distillers closure and the early Glenmorangie revival. Bottled in 2000 at natural strength 53.2% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The cask type is not specified on the label, characteristic of early Committee releases before the systematic single cask programme tagged each barrel with its full provenance.

Twenty four years of maturation places this release in the integrated mid phase of Ardbeg's long ageing curve, where primary peat phenols (guaiacol, 4 methylguaiacol) have begun substantial oxidative conversion toward leather and tarred rope, oak lactones build coconut and oiled wood notes, and hemicellulose breakdown furans add toasted almond and caramel. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature persists in concentrated form (pineapple, lemon, tropical fruit) as the marker of the distillery's distinctive spirit character from the Hiram Walker era.
