Ardbeg 21 Years Old 1999

A Canadian market exclusive released through Ardbeg's Private Bottling hand fill programme. Canada is one of the largest export markets for Scotch single malt outside the UK and US, with longstanding specialist whisky retail in Ontario and British Columbia receiving market exclusive bottlings. The Private Bottling label sits in the distillery's hand fill tier of releases, sourced from the warehouse archive and channelled to specific markets and events.

Matured on Islay for twenty one years from 1999 through the 2004 LVMH acquisition and into the modern era. Bottled in 2020 at 49% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 49% reading after two decades sits in the expected range for ex Bourbon maturation in the maritime climate, where humidity drives ethanol loss ahead of water across the long ageing curve.

1999 distillate carries the modern Glenmorangie spec peat profile at approximately 50 to 55 ppm phenol in the malted barley, delivering guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol and p cresol in classic Ardbeg proportions. Twenty one years of bourbon maturation builds American oak lactone coconut and vanilla notes, hemicellulose furan caramel, and lignin vanillin sweet spice around the integrated phenolic core. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature carries through as concentrated tropical fruit (pineapple, lemon, melon) beneath the integrated smoke, the distillery's spirit still architecture expressed across long Islay maturation.
