Released by Jack Wiebers Whisky World under the Prenzlow Portfolio themed series. Jack Wiebers is a German specialist independent bottler operating since the 1990s, with the Wiebers family running selected single cask releases through a series of named programmes and town themed portfolios. The Prenzlow Portfolio is named after the small town of Prenzlow in Brandenburg, northeastern Germany, with each release carrying the town's identity and place specific presentation.
Matured at cask strength 60.3% ABV from the 1991 distillation, the very high retained alcohol indicating a tightly sealed cask in a cooler warehouse position. Filled during Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening years between the 1981 mothball and the 1996 final closure, the 1991 vintage represents bridge stock from the transitional production years before the 1997 Glenmorangie acquisition.
Refill American oak maturation at retained high ABV intensifies extraction compound expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) read sharply, hemicellulose breakdown furans deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The 1991 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity with the elevated cask strength sharpening the phenolic edge. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit, a snapshot of Allied era spirit preserved at high cask strength.
