Ardbeg 15 Years Old 2009 (Sansibar)

Released through Sansibar Whisky's White Label series, the German specialist bottler's clean format presentation tier. Sansibar takes its name from the Sansibar restaurant on Sylt island in the German North Sea, with the bottling operation channelling selected single casks through distinctive label designs and event focused releases. The bottler sits within the German specialist whisky retail ecosystem alongside Kirsch, Jack Wiebers and Gourmetpool, with regular Whisky Live and trade show exclusives.

Filled into refill bourbon hogshead in 2009 during the LVMH owned Glenmorangie modern stable era and matured for fifteen years before bottling in 2024 at 52.8% ABV, unfiltered, uncoloured. The White Label series presents a simplified, minimalist label format against Sansibar's more elaborate themed releases, emphasising the cask provenance over the brand presentation.

Fifteen years of refill bourbon maturation builds mid age expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The modern Ardbeg 50 to 55 ppm peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry full intensity at this age for classic phenolic smoke. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the integrated phenolic core.
