Description
Cask #1060 is one of the rare Cadenhead's Ardbeg releases to carry a disclosed cask number on the label. Cadenhead's typically presents Authentic Collection bottlings without cask numbers, identifying each release by distillery, vintage, age, ABV and bottle code rather than cask provenance. The disclosed cask number here marks this 1994 15 year old as a documented single cask with full traceability against the more anonymous standard format.
Filled into refill bourbon hogshead in 1994 during Allied Distillers's final production years and matured for fifteen years before bottling in 2010 at 56% ABV, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 56% reading after fifteen years sits in typical range for refill bourbon Ardbeg in the maritime warehouse cycle, with steady ethanol attrition through the humid storage climate.
Fifteen years of refill bourbon maturation builds the modern mid age expression curve. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at expressive concentration, hemicellulose breakdown furans (furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural) deliver caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The 1994 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) carry strong intensity at this age with moderate oxidative conversion emerging. The Ardbeg purifier ester signature delivers concentrated pineapple, lemon and tropical fruit beneath the phenolic core.
