Ardbeg 11 Years Old 1993 (Cadenhead’s)

Cadenhead's deep 1993 Ardbeg programme delivered staggered single cask releases across two decades, beginning with the 2004 quartet of 10 year olds and continuing through 11, 12, 15, 19, 20, 24, 25 and 26 year expressions. The systematic release schedule allowed direct comparison of the same vintage at different maturation points, with each bottling drawn from a separate cask of the same 1993 distillation pool.

Filled into refill bourbon hogshead in 1993 during Allied Distillers's intermittent reopening and matured for eleven years before bottling in 2005 at 59.5% ABV for the German market, non chill filtered with no added colour. The 59.5% reading sits near the top of the cask strength range for Cadenhead's 1993 Ardbeg releases, indicating a tightly sealed cask with low ethanol attrition through eleven years of Islay maturation.

Eleven years of refill bourbon maturation builds early mid age expression with retained high ABV intensifying compound expression. Cis and trans oak lactones (coconut, oiled wood) build at moderate concentration, hemicellulose furans deliver emerging caramel and toasted almond, and lignin vanillin and syringaldehyde layer vanilla and baking spice. The 1993 Allied era peat phenols (guaiacol, syringol, 4 methylguaiacol, p cresol) read at near full intensity for classic Ardbeg phenolic smoke. The purifier ester signature delivers concentrated tropical fruit (pineapple, lemon, melon).
