Description
Yamazaki 18 Years Old, bottled in 2017, is a single malt from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery in Osaka Prefecture, Japan's first malt distillery, founded in 1923 where three rivers meet in the valley of Shimamoto and soft humidity aids long maturation. This global release is a mizunara matured 18 at cask strength, presented at 48% in a 700ml format, a Japanese oak showcase from the senior tier of the range.
Matured in mizunara oak casks, the porous Japanese wood gives its signature sandalwood and incense, with the listed new and old wood tones marking the long years in cask. At cask strength the aromatic mizunara character turns concentrated over the distillery's mature orchard fruit, the higher proof carrying the wood's resin and spice with weight. It is a deep and resinous showing of the Japanese oak signature that defines older Yamazaki, perfumed and full, rewarding unhurried time in the glass.
