Smoke, vanilla and a sharp citric edge run through this peated NAS Miyagikyo, bottled at 48% for Europe in 2021, a less typical side of the Miyagi Prefecture distillery that pairs lightly oiled Ex-Bourbon maturation with peat-dried malt.

Description
Miyagikyo Single Malt Peated is a no age statement expression from Nikka's Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture, released for the European market in 2021 at 48%. It uses peated barley, an unusual departure from the distillery's standard unpeated production, then matures the spirit in Ex-Bourbon casks.
Where the standard Miyagikyo is defined by softness, floral lift and orchard fruit, the peated variant introduces smoke and new wood to the foreground, alongside the vanilla and cereal warmth that Ex-Bourbon maturation typically provides. The hay-like and citric notes that characterise the distillery's base character remain detectable underneath, and an oily texture ties the elements together. The result is a distinctive expression that shows the range of the Miyagi Prefecture site beyond its well-known gentle, fruity identity.
